Autograph letter signed : Quebec, to his wife Betsey, 1813 Nov. 11.

Regretting that he did not receive a letter from her on the mail ship; saying he is glad she is not in Quebec because the situation is "very unpleasant" and noting that the Americans hold most of Upper Canada and that they have neither British troops nor ground to oppose them; discussing the possibility of securing a new position; describing how expensive Canada is, noting that the "rent in particular is beyond every thing I could even imagine," and describing his efforts to economize; sending his love and promising to bring the children some "Indian curiosities" when he returns.
